Federal Safe Routes to School Funding
Denver Public Works has applied for Federal funding for SRTS infrastructure improvements each year since the funding first became available after the passage of SAFE, ACCOUNTABLE, FLEXIBLE, EFFICIENT TRANSPORTATION EQUITY ACT: A LEGACY FOR USERS (SAFETEA-LU) in 2005. Funding was guaranteed through 2009. To date five of the seven applications submitted by Denver Public Works have been funded for improvements totaling more than $350K. Funding for SRTS education efforts have also been approved for Denver Public Schools through the Department of Environmental Health and other non-profit and community organizations for more than $200K.


As of April 2010, Federal Funding for the Safe Routes to School Program has been confirmed through the first quarter of 2011. Reauthorization of the transportation bill is also a future funding possibility. More information can be found here:
