In Denver, we take pride in our city. Whether it’s cleaning the riverbanks, making our homes energy efficient or conserving by watering our lawns less – I see residents taking significant steps to uplift this community every day.

Some of us were born here in Denver, many were drawn here, but we all share the same pioneering, entrepreneurial drive. It’s this spirit that led to the founding of our mile high, Queen City of the Plains. And it’s this spirit that has turned Denver into a home for the ideas economy.

Last week, I submitted my 2014 budget proposal for consideration by City Council, city employees, and the residents and businesses of Denver. I’m extremely proud of this plan – it is smart, responsible and allows us to continue restoring services lost during the recession.

Two young boys were struck by a car while crossing a residential street and this cowardly individual has not yet turned himself or herself in. These children, who had so much life ahead of them, had their lives unjustifiably stolen from them.

Small business is big business in Denver. It’s estimated that small businesses pay 44 percent of total U.S. private payroll, and here in the city, our local businesses with fewer than 25 employees comprise 80 percent of our total businesses.
