Denver Launches Search for New Manager of Aviation
Spencer Stuart will launch a global search for candidates immediately

(DENVER) The City and County of Denver announced today the selection of executive search consulting firm Spencer Stuart to lead the recruitment effort for the new Manager of Aviation at Denver International Airport. The search for a consulting firm began immediately following current Manager Turner West’s announcement that he plans to retire in the spring of 2008.

Known for its vast global network, Spencer Stuart will conduct a worldwide search for potential candidates with the goal of providing a list of top executives for consideration in the fall.  In order to ensure a comprehensive transition, the new Manager of Aviation will ideally be in place in early 2008, enabling him/her to work alongside West until his retirement.

The selection of Spencer Stuart was the outcome of a competitive “Request For Proposals” process managed by the seven-member DIA search committee.  The search committee members are Vicki Braunagel, former co-manager of DIA; Michael Hancock, Denver City Council president; Tom Clark, Executive Vice President, Metro Denver Economic Development Corporation; Mary Rose Loney, President and CEO, DIA Partnership; Manuel Martinez, Partner, Holme Roberts & Owen LLP; Claude Pumilia, Chief Financial Officer, City and County of Denver; and Turner West, Manager of Aviation at DIA.

“The City and County of Denver decided to use a global search firm in order to access the widest possible pool of talent for the position of Manager of Aviation at DIA,” said Mayor John Hickenlooper. “As the fifth busiest airport in the US and the 10th busiest in the world, DIA plays a key role in the world market. This role demands that we recruit from a global perspective.”

Spencer Stuart is one of the world's leading executive search consulting firms with an impressive roster of clients from a variety of industries. With more than 50 years in business as a proven performer, Spencer Stuart operates out of 50 offices in 26 countries.

Spencer Stuart’s Global Aviation Practice serves the world’s leading aviation organizations by identifying, attracting and recruiting top executive talent for leading companies in the aviation industry. Over the past decade, Spencer Stuart completed over 900 aviation sector searches for high-profile clients around the world, ranging from CEOs and board directors to the leadership of highly industry-specific technical functions.

“We are delighted and honored to have been selected to represent the City of Denver on this important mandate,” said Michael J. Bell, Co-leader of Spencer Stuart’s Global Aviation Practice. “Denver International Airport is a world-class facility and a successful business enterprise and should therefore attract a high quality group of candidates for consideration.”

The position of Manager of Aviation at DIA is appointed by Mayor Hickenlooper and is a member of the Mayor’s Cabinet.  The Manager of Aviation is responsible for the leadership for the overall operation of the airport, including planning, development, management, and operation of the airport’s properties, facilities, and services.
