Mayor Hickenlooper to Convene Graffiti Summit

 

Public invited to address Denver’s graffiti challenges with a
focus on abatement, enforcement and prevention

 

(DENVER) As announced in his July 2006 State of the City Address, Mayor John Hickenlooper will convene a graffiti summit on Wednesday, October 18, 2006, providing City agencies and interested community members, businesses and nonprofit organizations a framework to examine how other cities are addressing graffiti and develop new strategies for Denver to more effectively abate graffiti damage, enforce graffiti ordinances, and prevent future vandalism.

Members of Denver City Council
Community members, representing neighborhoods, business community and nonprofits
City agencies involved in graffiti abatement, enforcement, & prevention
Experts from other cities that are successfully addressing graffiti

Wednesday, October 18, 2006; 7:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

 

WHERE:
Denver Botanic Gardens, 909 York St.

For media planning purposes, the schedule of events is as follows: Registration/Breakfast at 7:30 a.m.; Opening Remarks by Mayor Hickenlooper and City Officials at 8 a.m.; Presentation on the Current Social Context and Challenges of Addressing Graffiti at 8:30 a.m.; Breakout discussions on abatement, enforcement and prevention at 9:30 a.m.; Lunch/Presentation from other cities on their experiences in addressing graffiti at 12 noon; Discussion of next steps/adjournment at 2 p.m.
