Dedication of Historic Buchtel Trail

(DENVER) For nearly three decades, the University Park neighborhood has worked toward city acquisition of the Buchtel Trail for dedicated open space. On Friday, October 22, 2004, that dream will become a reality when Mayor John Hickenlooper and District 6 Councilman Charlie Brown officially dedicate the Historic Buchtel Trail, thereby preserving valuable open space connecting the University Park neighborhood with light rail stations on the southeast line. The 11:00 a.m. program, featuring the Denver municipal band and students from University Park Elementary School, will take place at the intersection of Buchtel Blvd. and South St. Paul.

The Denver Parks and Recreation Department will have an expert on native grasses and plants at the event as this trail is – and will likely remain – a native area. The land, which was originally owned by the University of Denver, was transferred from RTD to the City and County of Denver as part of the T-REX intergovernmental agreement.
