Denver, CO – Jan. 12, 2009 – Mayor John Hickenlooper declared Tuesday, Jan. 13 “Dress Western Day” in Denver in honor of the National Western Stock Show’s annual Downtown Denver Parade.
“The National Western Stock Show is a signature event that showcases our Western heritage,” Hickenlooper said. “The parade, in particular, is a favorite, time-honored tradition. We encourage City employees and other residents of the region to get into the Stock Show spirit by dressing Western for the day.”
The National Western Stock Show parade features a Texas Longhorn cattle drive, marching bands, floats, horseback riders and performing cowboys and cowgirls. It begins at Denver’s Union Station at noon Tuesday and moves up 17th Street. It is preceded by an 11:30 a.m. barbecue in the atrium of the Wells Fargo Building. The barbecue is open to the public and features live music and a Western fashion show.
