Mayor Hickenlooper statement on sheriff deputy union vote

Mayor John Hickenlooper today released this statement on the Fraternal Order of Police vote to accept a new contract:

“Denver sheriff deputies play an important role in helping to preserve public safety in our community. We are grateful they recognized the financial challenges facing the City and approved a new contract that will provide some budget relief.”

A statement from City Council President Jeanne Robb:

“We appreciate the sacrifices sheriff deputies make every day in our jails, courtrooms and hospital, and we value their commitment to our community. On behalf of City Council, I want to thank the deputies for agreeing to make changes to their contract and delaying their scheduled raises.”

A statement from Fraternal Order of Police President Mike Jackson:

“The Denver Deputies feel that it was important for us to find some way to help with the current economic challenges that Denver faces. We think that this package was the best and most fair way for us to do our part in dealing with those challenges.”

Denver Firefighters Local 858 and the Police Protective Association agreed last month to new contracts to help the City save money in future budgets.
