Denver City government closed Friday for furlough and Monday for the Memorial Day holiday

DENVER – TUESDAY, May 25, 2010 – Most City and County of Denver offices will close Friday, May 28, 2010, due to a previously announced, budget-required furlough day for City employees. In addition, all City and County of Denver offices will be closed Monday, May 31, 2010, in observance of the Memorial Day holiday.

Friday is the second of five planned furlough days this year. The furlough days were suggested by many employees as a way to save money during a time of historic revenue decline. Each furlough day saves approximately $1 million for the general fund. The remaining furlough days are Fridays, Sept. 3, Oct. 15 and Nov. 26.

As a result of the budget-required furlough and holiday, the Mayor’s Office, City Council offices, the Auditor’s Office, the Denver Public Library, recreation centers and most city agencies will be closed Friday and Monday.  Partner entities such as Denver Health and the Denver Zoo will remain open both Friday and Monday, as will agencies that operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, such as Denver International Airport.
