Denver City government to close for Thanksgiving, furlough day

DENVER – Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010 – Most City and County of Denver offices will close Thursday and Friday, Nov. 25 and 26, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday and a previously announced, budget-required furlough day for City employees, respectively.

Friday, Nov. 26, is the final of five planned furlough days this year. The furlough days were suggested by many employees as a way to save money during a time of historic revenue decline. Each furlough day saves approximately $1 million for the general fund.

As a result of the budget-required furlough and holiday, the Mayor’s Office, City Council offices, the Auditor’s Office, the Denver Public Library, recreation centers and most city agencies will be closed Thursday and Friday.  Partner entities such as Denver Health and the Denver Zoo will remain open both Thursday, Nov. 25, and Friday, Nov. 26, as will agencies that operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, such as Denver International Airport.
