Mayor Hancock holds first “Cabinet in the Community”

DENVER – More than 200 residents joined Mayor Michael B. Hancock today at his first “Cabinet in the Community” quarterly town hall meeting, giving neighbors a chance to provide direct input, ideas and questions to top city leaders.

“One of my highest priorities is improving public input and community engagement,” Mayor Hancock said. “While our great city is faring better than many nationwide, we face some tough decisions about Denver’s future. The decisions we make now won’t impact just one neighborhood or one business. They will impact all of us. I’m committed to ensuring that residents and businesses throughout Denver have an opportunity to participate.”

Cabinet in the Community meetings are one more way Mayor Hancock and his administration are working to bring city government and the decision-making process out of City Hall and directly into Denver’s neighborhoods.

Today’s Cabinet in the Community meeting included remarks from the Mayor, introductions from department heads and top city leaders and presentations from Chief Financial Officer Cary Kennedy, Police Chief Robert White and Denver Education Compact director Theresa Pena. Residents then were able to meet one-on-one with the Mayor as well as any department head of their choosing.

“Today was an example of Mayor Hancock’s dedication to community engagement and public input,” said Cindy Johnstone, founder and president of Friends and Neighbors of Washington Park. “As the Chair of FANS, it’s exciting to see bridges being built from the city to the community so that we can begin making decisions together about the future of our city.”

Cabinet in the Community meetings will be held once every quarter in rotating regions of the city. The next meeting will be held June 30 at Rude Recreation Center in Denver’s Sun Valley neighborhood.
