Mayor Hancock, Safety Officials Announce Triple Crown Accreditation

Sheriff Department Top 1% in Country for Cutting-Edge Work

DENVER, CO – Mayor Michael B. Hancock, Manager of Safety Ashley R. Kilroy and Sheriff Gary Wilson announced today the Denver Sheriff Department’s receipt of Triple Crown Accreditation.

The Triple Crown Accreditation is an honorable distinction that recognizes a department for adapting the country’s most impactful, proven solutions for correctional management, generalized law enforcement duties, and health care services to those incarcerated.

Since the establishment of the award in 1993, only 39 of more than 3,500 sheriff departments across the country have qualified. The Denver Sheriff Department now joins the ranks of the top one percent of sheriff departments in the country that have attained this prestigious accreditation.

“This is an extraordinary feat that rightfully recognizes our sheriff department for the cutting-edge work they are undertaking to provide the highest quality services at the lowest possible cost,” Mayor Hancock said. “I applaud the honest, hard-working men and women who are serving this department and our community to deliver the country’s most impactful, proven solutions for correctional management. A well-earned, well-deserved award.”

Triple Crown Accreditation marks the completion of a rigorous self-evaluation, followed by multiple outside reviews by independent auditors. It is a professional evaluation based on national standards developed by national leaders from the fields of corrections, law, architecture, health care, and other groups interested in sound correctional management.

“This prestigious, voluntary accreditation confirms that the Denver Sheriff Department has the exceptional services, programs, health care, and security operations vital to effective correctional management,” said Manager of Safety Ashley Kilroy.

“I am proud of the agency for supporting the Denver Sheriff Department’s vision of striving for professional excellence,” said Sheriff Gary Wilson.

Triple Crown Accreditation was established by the National Sheriff Association to recognize those sheriff’s offices that achieve simultaneous accreditation from the Commission on the Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies, the American Correctional Association’s Commission on Accreditation for Corrections, and the National Commission on Correctional Healthcare.
