The Regional Transportation District and Regional Rail Partners on Friday formalized the construction contract for 18.5 miles of the North Metro Rail Line between Union Station and East 162nd Avenue.

The Denver Regional Transportation District said Monday construction of the North Metro commuter rail line will begin in the spring.

The RTD board, which gave approval on Friday to a $343 million proposal to design and build the 13-mile initial phase of the rail line, is looking at a January 2018 opening date.

Denver Public Works is advancing to phase two of a parking and access study of the Brighton Boulevard corridor.

The project aims to find ways to improve the corridor as a main roadway linking downtown Denver with the eastern part of the city. It is one of six projects of the North Denver Cornerstone Collaborative.
