Mayor Announces New Appointment to Denver Water Board

(DENVER) Mayor John Hickenlooper today announced his appointment of John R. Lucero to the Denver Water Board. Established in 1918, Denver Water is Colorado’s oldest and largest water utility. Its board is responsible for ensuring a continuous supply of water to the City and County of Denver and the nearly 50 percent of Denver Water customers who live in the surrounding suburbs, all of which involves issues of water collection, storage, quality control, distribution, conservation and pricing.

“John Lucero’s experience as a leader in the real estate community and his knowledge of housing and zoning issues make him an outstanding choice for Denver Water and for our entire region,” Hickenlooper said. “He is a dedicated public servant and community leader who is committed to affordable, smart development.”

Lucero is a broker associate at Lucero Real Estate, Inc., a local real estate company that offers residential, commercial, development and investment real estate expertise. Lucero is also a director of the Denver Board of Realtors, where he received the 2007 President’s Distinguished Service Award and has been a member of the Governmental Affairs Committee, Candidate Interview Committee and Policy Governance Ends Committee. Familiar with both state and local real estate issues, Lucero has served on several committees for the Colorado Association of Realtors and the Colorado Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals, where he received the 2003 President's Distinguished Service Award. Lucero currently serves as a member of the Denver Zoning Code Task Force and was a member of the mayor’s transition team for community planning and development in 2003. His community involvement includes work with the Denver Inner City Parish and support for Denver Public Schools theatre, music and dance programs.

Lucero fills the vacant position created by the resignation of Harris D. Sherman. The Denver Water Board is composed of five commissioners appointed by the mayor who serve staggered six-year terms. In addition to Lucero, current Denver Water Board Commissioners are Denise Maes, George Beardsley, Penfield Tate and Tom Gougeon.
