Mayors Sign Regional Commitment to Energy Efficiency and Conservation
(DENVER) The Metro Mayors Caucus announced Tuesday a historic pact to expand upon current efforts promoting energy efficiency and conservation. The Metro Mayors Caucus’ Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) sets forth a commitment by mayors on behalf of their municipalities to take voluntary actions to improve efficiency within their own operations, promote energy efficiency and conservation for residences and businesses, and to increase awareness of programs that enable consumers and businesses to identify and implement cost-effective efficiency upgrades.
All of the Metro Mayors Caucus’ 37 members, who collectively represent more than 2.1 million metro area residents, are anticipated to sign the MOU, which is available at www.metromayors.org
“We were able to reach consensus on this agreement very quickly because there are so many reasons to embrace conservation and upgrade to more efficient technologies,” said Lakewood Mayor Steve Burkholder. “It doesn’t matter if you are red, blue or green - the cost savings, environmental benefits, and wise stewardship of energy efficiency and conservation programs offer something for everyone.”
The Metro Mayors Caucus' efforts have been endorsed by organizations from across Colorado including Xcel Energy, the U.S. Green Building Council’s Colorado Chapter, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the Wirth Chair at the University of Colorado’s Graduate School of Public Affairs and the Metro Denver Economic Development Commission.
The Metro Mayors Caucus is a voluntary regional organization comprised of mayors from throughout the Denver metro area.
