Mayor Hickenlooper Issues Statement on Death of Denver Firefighter Lt. Rich Montoya

(DENVER) Mayor John Hickenlooper issued the following statement on Monday regarding the death of Denver Firefighter Lt. Rich Montoya on Sunday:

“Today we mourn Denver Firefighter Lieutenant Rich Montoya, who passed away yesterday after suffering critical injuries in a fire on May 14. While the tragic loss of Lt. Montoya is hardest on his family and colleagues in the Denver Fire Department, his death is mourned by all of us throughout the City and County of Denver.

“Denver city flags have been lowered to half staff and will remain so until after memorial services later this week to acknowledge the loss of a valued public servant, family man, friend and athlete. While we were fortunate to have Lt. Montoya serve in the Denver Fire Department for 30 years, he was taken from us too soon.

“We are grateful for the job Denver Firefighters do each day protecting our city, putting themselves in danger and sometimes paying a high price in saving the lives of others. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Montoya family and the entire Denver Fire Department during this sad and difficult time.”
