Mayor Hickenlooper Appoints New Marketing Director
(DENVER) Mayor John Hickenlooper announced Thursday his appointment of Christa Poston as the City of Denver’s new Marketing Director, beginning in mid-April. Based in the Denver Office of Economic Development, Poston will coordinate the City’s departmental marketing efforts while working with regional partners on integrated marketing initiatives related to economic development and tourism.
“We look forward to Christa bringing to the City her extensive experience in developing results-driven marketing programs, enhancing brand identity and visibility, and leveraging new marketing technologies and opportunities,” Hickenlooper said.
Since 2004, Poston has served as the Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications for Denver-based First Data Corporation. In this capacity, she directed First Data’s global corporate communications function while initiating the company’s first reputation research study, establishing new brand standards, and driving the development of a company-wide brand strategy.
Before moving to Denver, Poston served as Vice President of Global Marketing for JPMorgan in New York, where she developed and implemented a global marketing program for Investor Services, building brand identity and capitalizing on Internet-based marketing technologies.
She previously worked for MCI in Washington, DC. As MCI’s Manager of Partner Marketing she managed joint marketing efforts with Continental Airlines, Hershey Foods and Crystal Light. As MCI’s Senior Manager of Corporate Communications, she enhanced brand awareness through national and localized marketing and communications initiatives. In between these two roles with MCI, she served as Director of University Advancement at Georgetown University, where she managed fundraising and communications initiatives for the University’s board of regents.
Following her graduation from Denison University in Granville, Ohio, with a bachelor’s degree in history and English, Poston began her career as an account executive for the South Carolina-based marketing communications firm Newman, Saylor & Gregory and the Washington, DC-based special events firm WashingtonINC. From 1992 to 1993, she handled public relations activities for Marilyn Quayle in the Office of the Vice President.
