Mayor Hickenlooper and Governor Owens Proclaim “Orange Friday”
Bipartisan Display of Support for Denver Broncos
(DENVER) Standing between the Denver City and County Building and the Colorado State Capitol, Governor Bill Owens and Mayor John Hickenlooper officially proclaimed “Orange Friday” in both the City of Denver and throughout Colorado on Friday, January 20, 2006. Joined by Denver City Councilman Michael Hancock, Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce President Joe Blake, Denver Broncos alumnus and 1987 Ring of Fame inductee Billy Thompson, the Denver Broncos Stampede drum corps and Denver Broncos mascot Miles, Mayor Hickenlooper and Governor Owens encouraged Broncos fans everywhere to wear orange in support of the Denver Broncos in the upcoming AFC Championship game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
"Celebrating Orange" is a Denver tradition that dates back to 1973 when then-Mayor Bill McNichols recognized Orange Monday, honoring the Denver Broncos.
