Mayor Announces Creation of Task Force to Explore Library Funding Options

Mayor John W. Hickenlooper and City Librarian Rick J. Ashton announced Tuesday the creation of a 15-member task force to explore various funding and governance options for the Denver Public Library system, ranging from maintaining the status quo of an independent city agency dependent on City finances to creating a special library taxing district, and all options in between. The first Task Force meeting will take place on Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at 4 p.m. at the Denver Central Library, 10 W. 14th Avenue Parkway, in the Commission Room on level seven.

The Library Task Force will meet weekly for at least two months to research, analyze and assess the feasibility of multiple models and scenarios of funding mechanisms and administration for the Denver Public Library system. They will ultimately forward their recommendations to the Mayor.

The Library Task Force is composed of the following individuals:
