The Citizen Oversight Board is looking for potential board members

The Citizen Oversight Board is looking for potential board members. Interested individuals should complete a board application and return it to Suzan Moore, Director, Boards and Commissions, no later than January 7, 2011.

The function of the Citizen Oversight Board is to assess the effectiveness of the Independent Monitor's office and make policy level recommendations regarding discipline, use of force and other policies; address rules, hiring, training, community relations and the complaint process. The Board also addresses any other issues of concern to the community, members of the Board, the Monitor, the Manager of Safety, the Chief of Police, the Under Sheriff, or the Fire Chief.

Qualifications:
  • Must be a resident of the City and County of Denver.
  • May not be an employee of the City and County of Denver
  • No member of the Board or any of their immediate family members shall have ever been employed by the Denver Police, Sheriff or Fire Department.

Potential board members should have sufficient background and experience to develope
objective views and opinions relating to issues significant to Denver law enforcement and the community. Most of the board's work is intended to be transparent - open & televised meetings, visible records, annual reports, et al.

This is a four-year term that will begin as soon as possible. The Board meets the first and third Friday morning of every month and conducts quarterly public meetings that are televised on Denver Channel 8. Each Board member receives a stipend of $100 a month.
