|Denver City government to close for Cesar Chavez holiday, furlough day
DENVER – Friday, March 24, 2011 – Most City and County of Denver offices will close Monday and Friday, March 28 and April 1, in observance of the Cesar Chavez holiday and for a previously announced, budget-required furlough day for City employees, respectively.
Friday is the second of five planned furlough days this year. The furlough days were suggested by many employees as a way to save money during a time of historic revenue decline. Each furlough day saves approximately $1 million for the general fund.
As a result of the budget-required furlough and holiday, the Mayor’s Office, City Council offices, the Auditor’s Office, recreation centers and most city agencies will be closed on Monday and Friday. Partner entities such as Denver Health and the Denver Zoo will remain open both Monday and Friday, as will agencies that operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, such as Denver International Airport.
