DENVER – Mayor Michael B. Hancock today laid out his vision for building a better, faster, and stronger city government in order to meet the needs of Denver citizens now and in the future.
Mayor Hancock was the featured speaker at the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce’s State of the City Luncheon held at the Seawell Grand Ballroom in the Denver Center for Performing Arts. Today’s speech marked the Mayor’s 30th day in office and was his first major address since his Inaugural Address on July 18th.

“It was important for me to leave the chamber members and Denver’s business community with a clear message that our work to build a 21st Century administration is well on its way,” said Mayor Hancock. “After listening to Denver citizens, businesses and hundreds of leaders, we know we have to build a better, faster, and stronger city government if we are to meet the challenges and opportunities of this great city.”
The Metro Chamber hosts this annual event in order to provide bolster collaboration between the business community and the city’s leadership. More than 500 business leaders in attendance also heard perspectives on several other key sectors, including: Tameka Montgomery, executive director of the Denver Metro Small Business Development Center (on small business), Christine Benero, president and CEO of the Mile High United Way, (on the non-profit sector), and the Hon. Rick Pilgrim, Mayor of the Town of Bow Mar (on regionalism).
Highlights from Mayor Hancock’s address included:
- First 100 Days Plan progress;
- A restatement of his commitment to partnership and collaboration;
- Key appointments to-date;
- Upcoming opportunities; and
- His position on critical issues, including the National Western Stock Show and the Paid Sick Leave ballot imitative.
“Denver is brimming with possibilities,” said Mayor Hancock. “And we are thoughtfully building a strong team in order to execute a plan that will deliver a great city to all Denver citizens.”
