|Mayor Hancock moves to “DevelopDENVER”
DENVER – Mayor Michael B. Hancock today launched DevelopDENVER, a concrete plan to better support builders and make Denver’s Development Services the premier one-stop shop for facilitating world-class sustainable development.
“DevelopDENVER creates a reliable system for developers by setting in motion innovative approaches to streamlining projects, strengthening customer service and improving collaboration,” Mayor Hancock said. “By aligning this plan with the City’s economic development plan, JumpStart 2012, we will spur private sector growth and job creation.”
The 53-page strategic plan outlines tangible goals to make the City’s plan review, permitting and inspection services better, faster and stronger. Each goal aims to move a project through Development Services, from concept to completion, in a predictable, timely and transparent manner.
“After more than 200 meetings with a wide range of Development Services customers, we have listened and created a plan that will drive more effective and efficient project-related services,” Development Director Kelly Leid said. “The DevelopDENVER Plan charts a clear course for how we move forward, building upon important lessons learned and leveraging the enormous talent we have within the organization and across the City.”
From small residential projects to multi-million dollar commercial projects, Development Services improvements will be made to project management and tracking, online permitting, remote sign-in at the permit service counter and other upgrades to ensure customer ease from concept to completion.
The primary goals to improve Development Services and make it a one-stop shop are:
One of the first projects to participate in Development Services’ improved processes was the redevelopment of the 17.5 acre Marycrest Convent property at W. 52nd Ave. and Federal Blvd.
- Continuing to streamline the customer service experience by bringing together regulatory activities from across City agencies to lead and manage plan review, permitting and inspection services.
- Formalizing the organizational structure and securing required resources to adequately sustain key functions of a fully aligned, cross-functional and seamless support system for customers and staff.
- Facilitating the City’s development activity through an ongoing commitment by staff to seek new and better ways of doing business.
According to the Urban Ventures, LLC developer Susan Powers, “The new processes brought together key members of the City’s staff with our team at the earliest stage to outline a clear path forward which has made a big difference in our project.”
