Mayor Hancock Applauds Signing of Colorado Early Literacy Act

DENVER – Mayor Michael B. Hancock released the following statement to applaud the signing the Colorado Early Literacy Act, which will set statewide goals and processes to help ensure all students can read proficiently by third grade.

“I want to thank Gov. John Hickenlooper, Lt. Gov. Joe Garcia, State Sen. Mike Johnston and all of the bold advocates who worked tirelessly to advance this critical piece of legislation. This new law is a great step forward in providing educators with the early assessment and intervention tools they need to ensure our children are successful in school and in life.”

“Early literacy is critical because it lays the foundation for successful learning later on and has a direct correlation to high school graduation rates. By focusing on this critical skill, we can dramatically change the course for thousands of Denver students and build a strong workforce for the future of our great city.”
