Westerly Creek North Park Construction to Commence

DENVER – Mayor Michael B. Hancock, City Councilman Chris Herndon, Forest City Stapleton, Stapleton Development Corporation (SDC) and the Park Creek Metropolitan District (PCMD) today announced construction of the Westerly Creek North Park will commence following the completion of the environmental remediation and approval from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

“I want to thank the Councilman, Forest City, SDC, the PCMD and the Stapleton community for their dedication to this project,” Mayor Hancock said. “Through sincere collaboration, we are able to continue delivering vibrant open spaces, trails and parks that are hallmarks of Stapleton and significantly contribute to our residents’ quality of life.”

The current landowner, Denver International Airport (DIA), is facilitating the turnover of land for construction and has completed a site investigation, submitted and received approval from CDPHE of the remediation plan and now will begin the environmental remediation of the site. DIA has selected an environmental remediation contractor to conduct the clean-up and a Notice to Proceed has been issued by the city.

“We are excited about this critical progress and what it means for the overall park plan for Stapleton and northeast Denver,” said District 11 City Councilman Chris Herndon. “This move shows once again the city’s commitment to its people and to all its integrated communities.”

Upon the completion of remediation, the land will be transferred from DIA to the PCMD, which will manage the construction of the final 33 acres of Westerly Creek Park in Stapleton.
