To assist with the development of a new housing strategy for the City and County of Denver, the Office of Economic Development has convened the 2012 Mayor’s Housing Task Force. The group is meeting bi-weekly from February through June, and will present recommendations to the Mayor to guide the establishment of a new comprehensive housing policy for the City.
The task force will analyze housing inventory and housing needs, and then review current policies in order to develop recommendations addressing affordable and market rate housing.
Working through the Office of Economic Development, the task force will develop recommendations that are:
- Comprehensive — the new housing policy shall integrate and support the City’s JumpStart 2012 plan, subsequent Economic Development strategies, the Consolidated Plan, as well as other related citywide strategies, including Blueprint Denver, Greenprint Denver, the Strategic Transportation Plan and DevelopDENVER.
- Responsive to Needs — the new housing policy shall utilize updated demographics from the 2010 U.S. Census, current market trend analysis to identify the City’s overall housing needs, and an evaluation of the capacity for the City’s existing housing stock, available land and land use policies to meet current and future housing need.
- Implementable — the new housing policy shall reflect the Mayor’s housing priorities through the identification of objectives and strategies that are achievable given current political and economic environments and shall be readily adaptable to changing market dynamics.
Co-chairs of the task force are OED Deputy Director John Lucero and the Mayor’s Chief Projects Officer, Diane Barrett. Task force members are:
