New Small Business Retail Opportunities Take Flight at DIA
Denver International Airport is pleased to announce a new opportunity for small, local, minority and women owned retail businesses to lease 24 Retail Merchandising Units (RMU’s) and 14 kiosks throughout the airport. This new airport opportunity is managed by Provenzano Resources Inc., a full service specialty retail leasing consulting firm.

Preliminary applications for RMU and kiosk opportunities at DIA are now being accepted at It is recommended to apply as soon as possible due to high demand.

“We expect high demand for this program due to the outstanding performance of DIA’s concession program,” said Bryan Touchstone, DIA’s director of concessions. DIA’s specialty retail generates approximately $1,230 per square foot in sales. “Small businesses will benefit from airport traffic and the RMU program’s low capital costs and short-term license agreements. This is an excellent opportunity for local businesses to get into DIA with unique retail goods as well as seasonal products,” Touchstone said.

Provenzano Resources Inc. in conjunction with the Denver Office of Economic Development’s Division of Small Business Opportunity are hosting an outreach and networking meeting on Friday, Feb. 25, 2011 from 9 a.m. to noon at DIA in the City Conference Room located on the west side of Jeppesen Terminal on level 6. Small, local, minority and women owned retail businesses, and wholesalers, manufacturers, distributors, artisans and companies that offer turn-key RMU/Kiosk concepts are encouraged to attend. An airport tour of RMU/Kiosk locations will be available immediately following the meeting.

Expected to be one of the largest RMU programs in the airport industry, DIA projects the new retail locations will add $13 million in concession revenue in the program’s first year, generate an additional $500,000 in annual sales tax and create 120 jobs.

DIA’s concession program consists of 167,457 square feet of retail space that includes more than 140 concessions offering an exciting culinary, fashion and retail experience. In 2010, the concessionaire program generated over $243 million in annual gross sales and over $38 million in revenue to the airport.
