The Denver Office of Economic Development (OED) Business Assistance Center will host a free class for new and potential business owners about sales and use taxes, August 13, 2008, from 1 to 4:30 p.m., at the Wellington E. Webb Municipal Office Building, 201 W. Colfax Ave., room 4.I.5.
Presented by the Colorado Department of Revenue, the class will overview sales and use tax collection, required licenses, how to work with tax-exempt organizations, available electronic services and more. Additionally, the Denver Department of Treasury will address Denver-specific taxes.
“Many business start-ups run into problems with sales and use tax collection that can impede on their success,” said OED Executive Director Andre Pettigrew. “This is an outreach effort to address common questions our Business Assistance Center fields on a daily basis. We’re bringing clarity to what, for many, is a cumbersome task.”
This class will be the first of a series held by the Business Assistance Center to better educate entrepreneurs on issues related to running a successful business. Future class topics will include city business opportunities, business insurance, basic human resources practices and industry-specific regulatory requirements.
