Financial planners to offer free advice on budgeting, financial planning, debt management, paying for college, and more
The City and County of Denver is teaming up with the Financial Planning Association of Colorado to offer a free day of financial planning, June 26, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Mi Casa Resource Center, 360 Acoma St. Denver Financial Planning Day will provide Denver-area residents with free financial planning advice from professional financial planners. The event will feature planners from the Financial Planning Association® and CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professionals, all volunteering their time and expertise to work with local residents one-on-one to address important financial issues.
Financial planners will meet one-on-one with attendees to answer questions on budgeting, getting out of debt, income taxes, dealing with mortgage foreclosures, paying for college, estate planning and insurance, among many other topics. Advice will be offered on a “no strings attached” basis and planners will not give out business cards or sell financial products or services.
The event will also feature a series of classroom-style educational workshops addressing key personal finance topics, including: Financial Fire Drill: Tips to Cope with Loss of Income; Managing Money in Hard Times: Dealing with Credit Cards, Foreclosure and Unemployment; and Planning for Your Financial Goals.
“There is a direct link between the fiscal health of individual residents and the greater economic vitality of our City as a whole,” said André Pettigrew, executive director of the Denver Office of Economic Development. “By working to improve the financial IQ of Denver residents, we’re taking an important step toward strengthening individuals and communities. Being smarter about all things financial is essential for the well-being of our residents.”
Denver Financial Planning Day is organized by the City and County of Denver in partnership with the Financial Planning Association of Colorado as part of a national Financial Planning Days initiative created by Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Financial Planning Association, Foundation for Financial Planning and the U.S. Conference of Mayors. The collaboration is a first-of-its kind effort involving city governments and thousands of financial planners nationwide united in an effort to provide free financial education and programming to communities throughout the U.S.
