City of Denver Organizes “Cash Mob” to Celebrate National Small Business Week

To celebrate national Small Business Week, the Denver Office of Economic Development is organizing its first “SmallBiz Denver Cash Mob” on May 24.

The goal of the “SmallBiz Denver Cash Mob” is to assemble a large group of people to spontaneously visit and support a selected Denver business. “Cash Mob” participants are asked to spend $20 or more at the selected business to show their support for local businesses and Denver’s overall economy.

“Denver is a city that nurtures and supports our locally-owned small businesses that play such an important role in our neighborhoods and economy,” said Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock. “This week is about celebrating these local entrepreneurs and shining a spotlight on our great city’s thriving small business community.”

Understanding that a majority of Denver’s job growth comes from start-up and small business innovators and entrepreneurs, Mayor Hancock and the City of Denver are committed to making Denver the start-up and small business capital of the country.

OED offers a small business lending program that supports job creation and neighborhood revitalization by offering business start-up and expansion gap financing. For the 2012 pilot “Cash Mob” event, OED invited retail businesses that participate in its lending programs to take part.

OED is using social media to conduct the online poll to select a Denver business for the “Cash Mob.” Online polling is available through May 23 on the OED’s Facebook page, at www.Facebook.com/DenverOED. The selected business, as well as the event time, will be announced through the OED Facebook page on May 24, for an event to take place later that day.
