Homeless shelter’s new elevator made possible through community development funds

Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, Denver Roman Catholic Archbishop Charles J. Chaput and other officials participated in a ribbon cutting event today to celebrate the opening of a new elevator at Catholic Charities Samaritan House homeless shelter, located at 2301 Lawrence St. in Denver’s Five Points neighborhood.

Wage subsidies provided to employers to hire 600 youth
The Denver Office of Economic Development has awarded contracts to three community-based organizations to administer the summer Youth Employment Program funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The Denver Housing Authority, Goodwill Industries of Denver and Servicios de La Raza will administer the placement of approximately 600 at-risk youth with jobs this summer.

Program Aims to Increase the Number of Women, Minorities Within Real Estate Development

The Denver Office of Economic Development and the Urban Land Institute, Colorado District Council, announce the inaugural class of participants for the Real Estate Diversity Initiative. A group of 42 individuals have been partnered with ULI mentors – local developers – for nine months to learn firsthand what development entails. The program is designed to increase awareness of opportunities in the real estate industry among women and minority groups.
