Denver Receives National InfraGard Community Service Award
Denver – Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010 – The 2010 Annual National InfraGard Community Service Award was presented to the Denver Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (OEMHS) for its outreach and education programs. The OEMHS conducts the “Are You Ready” READYColorado, Citizen Emergency Response Training (Denver CERT) and other professional training.
“The ability of a community to prevent and recover from a devastating terrorist event, a natural disaster or emergency requires active development, participation and cooperation from all of our community partners,” said Dan Alexander, Director of the OEMHS. “We all share the responsibility to be prepared in order to minimize the effects of a disaster. We are honored to receive this distinguished recognition for our community efforts.”
InfraGard is a partnership between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the private sector. InfraGard is an association of businesses, academic institutions, state and local agencies, and other participants dedicated to sharing information and intelligence to prevent hostile acts against the United States.
Denver OEMHS outreach and education programs aim to reduce the impact of disasters and emergencies on our community. Training, communication and relationship building are also encouraged to support emergency response agencies by having citizens and businesses take a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in our community. OEMHS continues to develop partnerships with the public, businesses, faith-based organizations, cultural organizations, volunteer and nonprofit organizations, neighborhoods, and other federal, state and local government agencies in the Denver metro area.
