On Sunday, April 26th 130 volunteers met to clean up trash along the South Platte River through Denver. The volunteers included rafters, kayakers, cyclists and hikers that cleaned from Grant-Frontier Park to the City of Cuernavaca Park. The clean up started in the sun at 11:00 and finished in pouring rain around 5:00. Every volunteer did a great job making sure that this stretch of Denver’s river, bike paths and parks would be trash free for everyone to enjoy this summer. There were several sponsors including Phil Walczynski from High Point Ventures (the event organizer), GA Wright Marketing, Down River Equipment, Keen Footwear, Confluence Kayaks, Golden Bike Shop, Waste Management, Outward Bound, American Whitewater, New Belgium Brewing, E Street Communications, Geo Tours Rafting Summit Sportswear, All American Rafting, Barnes Bros. Creative, Renaissance Adventure Guides, Clif Bar, Raft Fix, Paddling Life, Leave No Trace and The North Face in Cherry Creek. There are already plans for next year’s event; check www.southplattecleanup.com for updates between now and April 2010. The total gallons of debris collected was 45,000.
