Babi Yar Park Improvements

Improvements in Babi Yar Park are slated for construction beginning mid-summer 2010.  The Babi Yar Ravine will undergo drainage improvements for bank stabilization; stream stabilization using new low profile drop structures; and erosion control.  The work will include the restoration of wetlands, riparian vegetation and upland prairie, all under the guidance of an individual 404 permit.  In the park, improvements will focus on improved accessibility and addressing deferred maintenance.  Specific improvements include the repair of the Star of David path; planting and pruning of trees, new paving and repair of the water feature in the Grove of Remembrance; completing the Yale streetscape design towards  Havana and new paving, plantings and repair of the monumental Bridge. Babi Yar Park’s native prairie will be preserved and protected during construction, and areas disturbed during construction will be re-established with native plantings. The project is a collaborative effort between the City & County of Denver and the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District. The project is funded by the 2007 Parks Improvements Bond Issue and UDFCD.

Washington Park Master Plan
Perhaps the most popular regional park in Denver, Washington Park attracts people from throughout the city and the region. Washington Park is also one of the City’s historically significant parks and landscapes. To ensure that Washington Park continues to meet the needs of the people who use it now – and in the future – as well as to maintain the manmade and natural features that define it, Denver’s Department of Parks and Recreation has initiated a yearlong master plan process for the park.

Central Denver Recreation Center Site

In 2007, Denver voters passed the Better Denver Bond program in which $11 million dollars was appropriated for land acquisition and design services for central Denver recreation center. After a year of research on various sites in the area, two possibilities have surfaced: a site on Colfax Ave/York St next to East High School and Congress Park.

The City must make a decision about the final site in October.  P
lease submit your comments regarding these two sites via the comment form located on lower right side of page.
