First annual Denver Police Heroes luncheon

Distinguished Service Cross
On Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at 11:30 a.m., the Denver Police Department, the Denver Police Foundation and Chief Robert C. White will honor several outstanding Denver Police Officers with the highest awards given by the department. These officers will receive the Medal of Honor, the Medal of Valor and the Distinguished Service Cross for actions they have taken to protect their fellow man.

In one of the cases, the officers confronted an armed suspect who was involved in a Home Invasion Robbery and Assault. The suspect refused to surrender and attempted to shoot one of the officers. Left with no other alternative, the suspect was shot and killed by officers. In another case, an officer was working a undercover prostitution enforcement operation when he was involved in a violent confrontation with the prostitutes pimp. The officer acted heroically to handle the unprovoked attack.

In another incident the suspect had just committed a Armed Robbery at a business when the officer encountered him running from the scene. The armed suspect was shot and killed while brandishing his weapon. The highest award that will be given is the Medal of Honor and will be given to an officer who donated his kidney to a fellow officer.

The Denver Police Foundation Award Ceremony will take place at the Brown Palace Hotel located at 312 17th Street in Downtown Denver.
