It's time to start collecting old financial records for this year’s KUSA 9News and Metro Crime Stoppers annual Shred-a-thon event. The 2013 Shred-a-thon will be held at five locations in the Denver-metro area on May 18th, from 7 a.m. to noon at the following locations:
- KUSA 9NEWS, 500 Speer Blvd., Denver
- Aurora Municipal Courthouse, 14999 E. Alameda, Aurora
- Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office, 13101 E. Bronco’s Parkway
- Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, 200 Jefferson County Parkway, Golden
- Westminster Police Department, 9110 Yates St., Westminster
For a voluntary contribution, participants can dispose of personal and financially sensitive documents such as old tax returns, bank statements, credit cards and legal documents. Participants are limited to three legal-sized file boxes or three kitchen sized trash bags. All documents will be shredded on site by licensed and bonded Shred-it employees. Members of law enforcement will be on hand to observe. Voluntary contributions go to support Denver-Metro Crime Stoppers.
Also, April 27th is the DEA’s (Drug Enforcement Administration’s) National Prescription Take-Back Day. This national event takes place the same day across the country. In Colorado, over 75 locations will be accepting expired or left-over prescription and over-the-counter drugs from the public. The purpose of this annual event is to insure the environmentally safe disposal of such medicines, and to reduce the likelihood of drug misuse or abuse. Note that these sites cannot accept needles, mercury thermometers, oxygen containers, chemotherapy or illicit drugs, radioactive substances, or pressurized containers. To find the nearest drop off point, Search the DEA Collection Site database. Check these locations closely for combined drug take-back and shredding events. In Lafayette, the Lafayette Police Department will be holding both events on April 27th at the LPD, 745 US Highway 287. Click here for more details.
