Fingerprinting Services & Background Checks

The Identification Section of the Denver Police Department performs fingerprinting services for all residents of the City and County of Denver for the purposes of employment, adoptions and other pre-approved purposes. The Denver Police Department does not keep a copy of these fingerprints.

Fingerprinting Information
  • Location: 1331 Cherokee Street
  • Hours: 10 a.am - 5:30 pm Wednesday & Thursday
  • Valid ID is required
  • $10 / per card (We do not provide fingerprint cards)
  • $5 for each additional card
  • Payment: Check money order (cash is not accepted) made to: Manager of Revenue

Background Checks

To obtain a notarized letter and background record check (arrest record), download and complete and return the Arrest Records Form (PDF). The fee for processing this request is $15. Colorado background checks are performed by CBI, while Denver will provide background checks (arrest records) for Denver information only.

10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The Identification Section also performs several other functions including:

  • Registration of all Denver parolees, probationers and sex offenders
  • Verification by fingerprint, the identity of all persons arrested in Denver
  • Testimony as expert witnesses in habitual criminal trials
  • Creation of photo lineups for our detectives and other agencies
  • Processing of all Denver excise and license permits. This includes permits for liquor licenses, armed and unarmed guards and taxi drivers
  • Archival of all Denver records from paper to a computer database
  • Creation of City employee identification cards. These include police, fire, district attorney, probation and Career Service employees
  • Making of arrests
  • Sealing of records as ordered by courts
  • Filing and recording restraining orders from the Denver courts
  • Processing FBI returns (Research and add FBI and state identification numbers to our records)
  • Processing firearm background checks for other agencies
