Required: A license is required for the operation of any child care facility in Denver. A “child care home, large” is a private residence providing care and education for periods of less than 24 hours for seven to twelve children from 2 to 16 years old. A “child care home, small” is a private residence providing care for less than twenty-four hours of not more than 6 children (including any children of the caregiver) plus two additional children under the age of 17 who attend before and/or after school hours.

Child Care Center/Specialized Group center/Residential Child Care Facility/Crisis Center/Residential Camp
License Required: A license is required to operate any child care facility in Denver.
A child care center is a facility which is maintained for the whole or part of a day but for less than twenty-four hour care of 5 or more children from the ages of 6 weeks through 16 years.
A specialized group center is a facility providing twenty-four hour care for five through twelve people whose special needs can best be met through the medium of a small group and who are children from 3 to 16 years old or are above sixteen but who have been placed by court order.
A residential child care facility is a facility providing twenty-four hour residential group care and treatment for 5 or more people whose special needs can best be met through a small group and who are children 3 to 16 or who are over 16 and have been placed through court order.
A crisis center is a residential child care facility which provides short-term twenty-four hour care to five(5) or more children from infancy through 12 years who are abused, suspected of being abused, or in danger.
A residential camp is a facility operating for three or more consecutive twenty-four hour days during one or more seasons of the year for the care of five or more children.
