T-REX Project Announces Recipients of Incentive Funding
LOCAL SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS ENCOURAGE COLLEAGUES TO PARTICIPATE IN UPCOMING TRAINING PROGRAMS

DENVER , January 4, 2005 – Although T-REX Project construction will end in September 2006, one T-REX program will continue to help build Colorado ’s small businesses for years to come.  The     T-REX Project, in partnership with Southeast Corridor Constructors (SECC), will award $380,000  to seven organizations today to provide skill-building programs and services for small business enterprises (SBEs).  These programs will enhance the opportunity for small businesses to compete for future highway and transit construction projects.

“We are very pleased to once again provide funding for training programs that will benefit members of the small business community,” said Joe Wingerter, Southeast Corridor Constructors.  “We are committed to assisting small and disadvantaged companies as they continue to grow and compete for existing and future construction projects.”

Now in its third year, this unique program has provided more than $1.4 million in community funding for small business education and training programs. Since the T-REX Project began, 24 programs have been awarded grants to provide 174 training courses for more than 2,500 participants.

“This program gave me an opportunity to continue my adult education without having to use my limited budget,” said Darlene Smith, owner of Eunique Associates, Inc., a small business enterprise providing technical and professional services. “SECC and the T-REX Project are doing a wonderful thing in the community. When small businesses come together, we all learn from each other.”

In response to a survey of more than 700 small firms and community business organizations, the request for proposal asked respondents to submit proposals for programs that provided services in the areas of establishing joint ventures, human resources / employee management, proposal and quote submissions and contract management.  Alternate training or services options also were considered.

This year, seven organizations were awarded funding to assist the small business community through free or reduced cost training programs.

The following organizations and programs were selected to receive funding for 2005:
