The Denver Sheriff Department is responsible for the care, custody and transport of prisoners for the City and County of Denver. The department is comprised of three divisions:
The County Jail Division is responsible for the long term care and custody of prisoners and is the holding facility for convicted felons awaiting transfer to the
Colorado Department of Corrections, Work Release and Community Corrections.
The Downtown Division is comprised of the
Van Cise-Simonet Detention Center which is the prisoner intake center where prisoners are processed into the system and housed until such a time that they are able to make bond, or have been given an advisement by the court. The
Civil Division , Court Services Unit and the Correctional Care Medical Facility (located at Denver Health) also reside under the Downtown Division.
This Division is responsible for the Department's overall administration and special projects, the Training Academy and the
Vehicle Impound Facility.
