Storytelling Lab: Preserving Denver's Latino and Chicano History

The City and County of Denver has launched a first-of-its kind project to uncover and share the rich history and historic places of Denver’s Chicano and Latino communities. The goal is to create a broad overview on the citywide settlement and development patterns of Latino and Chicano communities in Denver up to the 1990s. The project will identify significant locations and buildings connected to our Chicano and Latino communities in order to preserve and protect those spaces. The project will also help Denver build a more inclusive list of designated landmarks and historic districts and inform the citywide building survey Discover Denver.

We need your stories, memories and photos to help us identify significant locations that should be recognized and remembered and to ensure the project reflects the community.

We're grateful to those who shared their stories with us at our recent Storytelling Lab, after getting hands-on training in the Storyvine guided video app. The video above includes highlights of the stories we gathered, but we need to more! So if you have a cherished place or space that you believe needs to be preserved, all you have to do is download the FREE Storyvine app, follow the prompts and we'll get notified when your video is ready.

Selected stories may be featured at, on social media or in a mini documentary to be released later this year.
