Lucia Guzman is no stranger to being first. She was the first Hispanic to lead the Senate Caucus and the first woman, Latina and lesbian to be a leader in the Senate. Most notably among her successes was aiding in the passage of the Civil Unions Bill in Colorado, which laid the foundation for the nation’s acceptance of marriage equality. She talked to I Am Denver about how working with both sides of the aisle was instrumental to her political success.
