Yolanda Ortega has worn many important hats throughout her life: Vice President of Students Affairs at MSU Denver, radio co-host for KUVO’s weekly show Canción Mexicana, cultural worker, mentor and community activist. But there’s no denying that the stage holds a special place in her heart. She began her acting career on the streets of Denver where she sang and performed with the acclaimed company Su Teatro long before they had a brick and mortar to call home. The Chicano Movement was at its height and Yolanda and her peers echoed the struggles of the times through performance. She talked to I Am Denver about her career and activism.
