Animal Shelter Legacy Giving

Planned giving is a way for individuals of all financial circumstances to leave a legacy and make an impact for the causes they care about.

Your planned gift—whether made through your will, a charitable trust, or another giving method—helps power our lifesaving work and allows us to go above and beyond basic services for the animals in our shelter and community. Donations to Denver Animal Shelter are kept in our Special Revenue Fund, separate from the City and County of Denver’s general fund. This fund supports programs that extend our impact, including Humane Education, Foster Care, Community Outreach, Emergency Medical Care, Spay/Neuter Services, and Animal Care & Enrichment.

Creating Your Will

We recommend that you consult a financial advisor of your choice to help create your will and trust.

You have the option to bequest a percentage of your estate or a set dollar amount of your choice. 

Beneficiary Designations

Assets you pass on outside of your will are called non-probate assets. They include lRAs, 401(k)s, pensions, life insurance policies, and certain bank and brokerage accounts. To designate Denver Animal Shelter as a beneficiary simply reach out to the financial institution that manages your account to request a beneficiary designation.
