Community Engagement

Building relationships, saving lives.

Denver Animal Protection’s Community Engagement Program provides community members with high quality veterinary services, humane education courses covering a wide variety of topics, and pet supplies/pet food for people needing extra support.

The bond between an owner and their pet is sacred to the individual, but it is also a deeply important part of our shared culture. The goal of the Community Engagement Program is to honor these relationships and keep pets and people together. Unfortunately, with pet overpopulation and increased costs of basic veterinary care, many pets face an uncertain future.

For Denver pet owners in need of extra support, we offer free veterinary services, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and microchipping. By offering these services we can expand access to care and eradicate preventable diseases from our community. Through our humane education courses, we give people the knowledge to provide their pet with a better life, while inspiring the next generation of animal welfare advocates amongst Denver’s students. When an owner needs pet food or supplies, we are here to lend a hand.

We take a nonjudgemental, supportive approach to helping animals, focusing on building trust with our community and promoting a transparent, open-door policy with all of our work. We view our work through the One Health lens, recognizing that the health of our city’s animals is interlinked to the wellbeing of the people and the environment we share.
