We understand that times can be tough, and no one should have to choose between feeding themselves or their beloved pet. If you're experiencing financial hardship, we're here to help. We also accept pet food donations to help pets in our community.

Free Pet Food

If you or someone you know is in need of pet food, contact us at dap.outreach@denvergov.org.

Pet owners can also come in to the shelter (1241 W. Bayaud Ave.) during our open hours to pick up food. However, those who do not have an appointment should expect a wait time. We cannot guarantee the inventory of food we have at any given time. It is best to make an appointment so we can set aside the food you need for your pet.

Denver Animal Shelter Hours

  • Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 11 a.m.- 6:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday and Thursday from 12:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. 

I want to donate pet food

When budgets are tight, families may struggle to feed their pets. To help, we encourage pet food donations. We accept donations at Denver Animal Shelter (1241 w. Bayaud Ave.) or through our Amazon Wishlist. 

What We’re Accepting:

Pet Food: Food and treats for dogs, cats, small mammals, birds, and reptiles. Unopened, original packaging only. Please ensure all items are within their “best by” date. 

Other Accepted Donations:

  • Toys
  •  Collars & leashes
  •  Harnesses
  • Pet beds

Where to Drop Off Donations:

  • Denver Animal Shelter: 1241 W. Bayaud Ave.
  • Place your donation in the bins to right of the Lost & Found doors or the left of the Adoption doors.
  • Look for clearly marked bins labeled “Pet Food Drive” at both entrances.
