Body artist
What is a body artist?
Body art is the practice of physical adornment by establishments and artists utilizing, but not limited to, the techniques of body piercing and tattooing. It does not include ear piercing. A body artist is anyone who performs body art on another person. To get a body artist license in Denver, artists must be working at a licensed body artist establishment or a licensed body art mobile vehicle.

A temporary body artist permit can be issued to allow body art procedures outside a licensed body art establishment for a one-time event. This could be a trade show or educational seminar. They are only valid in a licensed temporary body art facility. An applicant for a temporary body artist permit must apply no fewer than 30 days before the event. If you are licensed as a body artist in Denver, you do not have to get a temporary body artist license to work an event in the city.
A body artist must be 18 years old or older to apply.
If a licensed cosmetologist is authorized to do microblading by the state, they are not required to get a body artist license through the Department of Excise and Licenses. The Denver Department of Public Health and Environment can require licensed cosmetologists comply with the body art ordinance rules and regulations.

When to apply
Body artists should apply for a new or renewal license 30 days before their current license expires. This will ensure Excise and Licenses can process the application so there is no lapse in the body artist's ability to work.
Temporary body artists must submit their applications at least 30 days before the scheduled event.
