Renew a burglar alarm company license

If your company has a license, do not submit a new application unless the record has been expired for more than two years.
If you do not see the option to renew your original record, or the record has been marked as expired for less than two years, email us at alarms@denvergov.org for assistance with the application for renewal. During the renewal, you will be asked to update your contact information and provide any other important changes that have occurred since you last renewed.

If you receive an error message, do not attempt to complete the payment again. If you don't receive a receipt after making your payment, do not attempt to pay again. If you are unsure if your payment processed, email alarms@denvergov.org. Include details in the email after you have followed up with your bank to see if the payment completed. Late fees will not charge.

Renew application

Step 1.Before you apply

  • You can renew a license as early as 90 days before it expires. The Department will try to remind license holders of the approaching deadline to the email provided at application. Failure of a reminder does not excuse any applicable late penalty.

Step 2.Submit an application

Log into Denver's Online Permitting and Licensing Center.

Above the blue bar, click "Business Licenses."

This will begin the renewal process. Go step by step through the application providing the requested information. In future renewals, the system will autofill from your previous answers. Reach out to alarms@denvergov.org with any questions.

Step 3.Pay required fees

License fee: $50

See "Late renewals" below to review late fees.

Step 4.City application review and next steps

Excise and Licenses tries to conduct an initial review of a complete application within seven business days. The review process might take longer if it is incomplete or requires police review (if applicable).

  • All application-related communications will be sent through email, from EXLNotifications@denvergov.org. Do not respond to these emails as this inbox is not monitored.
  • If the application is incomplete, the applicant will receive a "notice of deficiency" email. This allows 14 days for corrections. License endorsement requests and incidents on a background check need police review.
  • All applications will be closed if they are not completed within 12 months.

Step 5.License issuance

Once approved, the applicant is emailed a copy of the business license. This allows the license holder to start operating.

The licensee should read "Once you have your license" below and follow the requirements.

If adding installation and/or maintenance as a new service type

Only for new installation and/or maintenance technicians

Licenses must be renewed on or before the expiration date to avoid penalty fees.

First 30 days of grace period: 20% penalty fee

Days 31 to 90: 50% penalty fee

If your company has a license, please do not submit a new application unless the record has been expired for more than two years.

License must be displayed

Excise and Licenses will email a professional license to all licensees. This license (or a clear picture of it) must always be displayed.

Requirement to keep contact information up to date

Submit an amendment to notify the Department of any information changes (ownership information, service type changes, place of business, etc.). These updates must be submitted within 72 hours of the change.

Requirement to renew annually

Licenses expire annually. It is unlawful to operate with an expired license. A renewal application must be filed before the license expires.
