Residential rental property
With the deadline fast approaching for single units to have a license and as part of the City and County of Denver’s ongoing outreach efforts, there will be an in-person question-and-answer session about the program as well as application support on Tuesday, October 19 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Ross University Hills Library (4310 E Amherst Ave). The event will start with a 40-minute overview presentation of the residential rental property licensing program and a general question-and-answer session. A signup sheet will be available for one-on-one help from Excise and Licenses staff after the presentation. Depending on the volume who sign up, wait times could be substantial. Computers will be available for public use to apply for the license during the session. There also will be Spanish- and Mandarin-speaking staff members available to help.
On May 3, 2021, the Denver City Council passed a new ordinance requiring a residential rental property license. This is for anyone offering, providing, or operating a residential rental property in the City and County of Denver. A residential rental property is any building, structure, or accessory dwelling unit that is rented or offered for rent as a residence for 30 days or more at a time. The licensing program is part of Denver's drive to achieve minimum residential rental housing standards.
