Energize Denver Task Force Background:

Commercial and multifamily buildings are responsible for 49% of the greenhouse gas emissions in Denver. The Energize Denver Task Force is helping us design a building performance policy for existing commercial and multifamily buildings that:

  1. Improves Health and Equity:  Increase indoor air quality, comfort and health outcomes. Lower energy costs for businesses and ensure under resourced communities can thrive under the policy.
  1. Creates Jobs:  Create clean energy jobs and drive economic recovery from COVID.
  1. Drives Climate Solutions in Buildings:  Design a policy that will require existing buildings to achieve Net Zero Emissions by 2040, and design a regulatory path that enables all buildings achieve this goal.  Our definition of Net Zero Emissions is highly efficient, all electric, grid flexible, and powered by 100% renewable electricity.

The task force will recommend a path to achieve all these goals in a way that is cost effective, simple, flexible, achievable, and improves the overall well being of all people in Denver, especially those who are the most under resourced today.
