Commercial buildings are responsible for 49% of Denver’s the carbon pollution. However, Denver's goal is to ensure all commercial and multifamily buildings in Denver are zero emissions by 2040. Zero emissions buildings are highly efficient, all-electric, grid resilient and responsive to the grid, and powered by systemwide renewable energy.
We will meet this goal through using both incentives and regulations. These regulations basics will help you understand what your requirements are. Many of the green building and energy use requirements come from the Denver Commercial Building Code or the Energize Denver Building Performance Policy. However, building owners, managers, designers, contractors, and builders should be familiar with all local building codes and ordinances.
The more our buildings community is familiar with their requirements, the more likely it is that Denver will meet its goals and build a resilient and efficient city for all.
